Our esteemed Lieutenant Governor is planning a visit to Lee County for a non-partisan Town Hall meeting on August 21st, from 6-8 pm, to be hosted at the Lee County Arts and Community Center Auditorium at 507 N. Steele Street in Sanford.  He will provide a Powerpoint review of changes from this most recent legislative session followed by up to an hour of Q&A.Everyone in the region is invited to attend – free admission.  I understand he may not be doing a Town Hall in Chatham, Harnett or Moore Counties this go around. We welcome those counties’ citizens to attend our Town Hall if there is an interest in hearing him speak or in asking him questions.  Media reps are welcome to attend if they like.

We have plenty of seating, so feel free to invite all who may have an interest in this Town Hall.

Warm Regards,

Commissioner Jim Womack

ICYMI: Buncombe County Young Republicans Release Video Exposing Protesters

Monday the Young Republicans in Buncombe County visited the Moral Monday protesters in Asheville with a petition asking for signatures to return education funding to the days of Democratic control.  The 12th Monday protest was another collection of anti-Republican groups that have staked a claim on protesting all things GOP.  With such a heavy focus on protesting, North Carolinians are left to ask ,’what exactly does the Democratic leadership stand for?’

The video from the Buncombe YR’s partially answers that question.  Attendees were asked if they’d sign a petition to return education spending to 2009 levels when Democrats last wrote the budget.   Unfortunately they weren’t concerned that this would cause a reduction in education funding by hundreds of millions of dollars.

Beginning with the 2016 election, North Carolina voters will no longer be able to register and vote at the same time and will need to present ID when voting. In a bill requiring photo identification to vote signed by Gov. Pat McCrory on Monday, state lawmakers also eliminated in-person registration and voting, often referred to […]…»

True reform requires true leadership. Over the past few weeks, North Carolina has provided a best-in-class example of what can happen when legislators keep their promises and governors follow through on their word. A few days ago, the North Carolina House and Senate gave final approval to major tax reform legislation. When that important bill […]…»

Results from a federal study that examined potential for groundwater contamination through the controversial hydraulic fracturing process says that the water is free of chemicals. The study, conducted by National Energy Technology Laboratory, monitored fracking fluids for a year that had been injected in underground in Western Pennsylvania. The fracking fluid was tagged with markers […]…»

Any first-year law student knows ignorantia juris non excusat: Ignorance of the law is no excuse. As such, all of us should know the provisions of the Voter Information Verification Act that has been enacted by the N.C. General Assembly. Speaking at the North Carolina Chamber’s annual education conference in Chapel Hill, McCrory said business owners repeatedly tell him that they cannot find qualified employees for their job openings. The state needs to do more to prepare students for the workforce, he said. “When employers are begging for qualified applicants in a state with the […]…»

Amid falling approval ratings and an economy that continues to sputter, President Obama launched an economic-policy tour in recent days with speeches in Illinois, Missouri, Florida and Tennessee. What he said was familiar-a list of the presidents favorite programs and grievances against Republicans. The White House let it be known that the speeches were intended […]…»

To adapt H.L. Mencken, nobody ever went broke underestimating the cynicism and self-dealing of the American political class. Witness their ad-libbed decision, at the 11th hour and on the basis of no legal authority, to create a special exemption for themselves from the ObamaCare health coverage that everybody else is mandated to buy. The Affordable […]…»
